This year Neighbour Day coincides with Easter on Sunday 31 March, so it’s the perfect opportunity to spread some extra love and connection in our community this long weekend.

To give you some inspiration on how you can connect with those around you, here’s some great tips from Relationships Australia.

Start small

Every connection counts! Start by making small gestures throughout the year – this Easter weekend you could drop off a homemade Easter card or chocolate bunny to your neighbours. The little things add up to stronger connections.

Leave a friendly note

Spread some neighbourly cheer by leaving a connection card with a thoughtful message for your neighbours. Share your contact information and invite them to chat. It's a simple yet powerful way to kickstart a sense of belonging.

Volunteer

Join forces with a neighbour, friend or family member and volunteer. It's a great way to bond while making a positive impact in our community. You can find volunteering opportunities on the Northern Beaches on our Be Collective platform

Spread kindness

Do a random act of kindness, like paying it forward at a cafe. These thoughtful gestures make people feel seen and appreciated.

Make a call

Reach out to someone you haven't spoken with in a while. A random call can make someone's day and strengthen connections.

Ask for and offer help

Offer to help your neighbours with shopping, collecting mail when you’re on holidays or taking in your bins – and remember to ask for help when you need it too. It's a great way to connect and create a sense of community.

Start a community project

Work together on projects like a Street Library or community clean up. Working together on shared interests can help build relationships.

Host connections

Organise a casual morning or afternoon tea and invite neighbours to join. It's a fantastic way to foster connections and share stories. If you want to throw something a bit bigger, Council can help you close your street for a Meet Your Neighbour Party

Wellness walks

We’re so lucky on the Northern Beaches to have so many incredible walks on our coast and in our bushland. Ask someone to join you!

Throw a goods exchange

Whether it’s a clothing swap, book exchange or switching up kitchen appliances, this can be a fun way to meet new people while finding a hidden treasure.

Do you have a fantastic initiative that helps to connect your community? We would love to hear about it so we can share these ideas more widely and help build connections across the entire Northern Beaches. Enter now and you’ll go into the draw to win a $100 Glen Street Theatre voucher. Entries closing Sunday 14 April.
