WorldPride is going to be the biggest event of 2023 and we’ll be celebrating along with local business and organisations in the three-week spectacular (17 February – 5 March).

WorldPride is the largest LGBTQIA+ global event hosted in a different city every two to three years and Sydney has been selected as the first city in the southern hemisphere to hold this event which celebrates diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Following the September meeting Council agreed to support activities for the event by providing financial support to businesses and organisations through small grants.

Of the 24 applicants, seven have been successfully awarded grants with two receiving full funding and the other five receiving part funding for their initiatives. The successful recipients are:

  • Manly Business Chamber
  • Collaroy Tennis Club
  • Running Stars Healthy Living Ltd
  • Harbord Diggers – Mountie Group
  • Ability Options – on behalf of GLAM
  • Rainbow Families in partnership with Fusion Pride
  • Avalon Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce

The recipients will use the funds to encourage and promote community participation in innovative activations to celebrate WorldPride across the Northern Beaches.

Council is also supporting the event via a number of activations including the installation of rainbow banners across the peninsula, temporary art installations in Manly and exhibitions in our libraries including, Rainbow Storytimes for children, film screenings and author talks.

WorldPride celebrates equity, inclusion, diversity of culture and identity in the Asia Pacific region. It also shines an international spotlight on First Nations culture, and draws attention to LGBTQIA+ human rights abuses.
