Thank you to our Northern Beaches community for refilling your bottles with 442,055 litres of water over the last year at eight of our water stations that record usage levels.

That’s the equivalent of a huge 736,758 standard 600ml plastic water bottles!

With over 230 water fountains locally, we can all make a big difference by refilling our reusable drink bottles rather than buying water.

If you’re out and about, and looking to refill your water bottle, check out our handy map which shows your nearest refill station or bubbler.

These statistics show that many in our community are creating good habits and reducing their use of single use plastics.

And with NSW banning a whole heap of single use plastics later in the year, it’s even more important to make the switch away from single use plastics. Did you know that single use plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery, plates and bowls, and expanded polystyrene foodware, such as cups, plates, bowls and clamshells will all be phased out by 1 November? Lightweight plastic bags were also banned on 1 June.

Now is the perfect time to find alternatives before these new bans begin. Why not take our Swap this for that pledge, and commit to ditching one or more single use plastics!

Whatever you choose to avoid, every time you say no to a piece of single use plastic, you are helping to make a positive impact to our planet - so nice job!

You can stay motivated with our waste dashboard. View how much waste is generated in your suburb and then compare it with the entire Northern Beaches.

Check out Council’s waste reduction events to help you make the change.
