Congratulations to the 64 grant recipients who will receive a share of $370,000 as part of Council's annual grants program.

The grants cover 4 categories including sports infrastructure, the environment, placemaking, arts and community development initiatives.

Community Grants

A total funding pool of $200,000 was available for two grant programs under this stream - Arts and Creativity and Community Development.

45 applicants were successful with funding of up to $10,000 per project. 

Successful applicants for Community Development grants include programs that reduce social isolation, increase beach safety for diverse communities, support survivors of abuse, provide art programs for multicultural communities, support people disability and single mothers. 

Successful applicants in the Arts and Creativity category will provide community art workshops, art therapy, an arts and writers festival, a cultural event and a pilot music program.

Sports and Infrastructure Grants 

A total funding pool of $100,000 will be used to make improvements to community sport and recreation facilities on Council managed land. 

Five successful projects were allocated funding between $10,000 and $35,000 including Harbord United Junior Rugby League Football Club to install a new drainage system at Harbord Park, Bareena Park Tennis Club to install new lighting, Belrose Terrey Hills Raiders Soccer Club to upgrade the kitchen and canteen in the clubhouse, Allambie Beacon Hill United Football Club to install a new storage shed and Newport Bowling Club to upgrade the female bathrooms.

Environmental Grants

Environmental Grants provide grants of up to $5,000 to 11 applicants.  

Some of the successful projects include bush regeneration projects, monthly beach clean ups, a swamp wallaby monitoring program, energy efficient lighting upgrades a water monitoring program and the installation of native bees at a local community garden.

Placemaking Grants

A total of $17,000 has been allocated to individuals and organisations to deliver new and renewed activities to drive vibrancy in our local centres and stimulate the local economy. 

Five successful projects include Loss and Learning in the Freshwater Pocket Park, Festive Freshie, Killarney Heights Village Shops Improvement Group, Newport Spring into Summer Celebration and Elanora Heights Village Christmas Markets.
