We’re thrilled to announce $292,000 in grants have been officially awarded to 57 deserving community projects.
From disability support for school children to First Nations visual art, these grants will help turn amazing ideas into reality and help support our local community.
Some of the incredible projects include:
StreetJam: A mobile DJ unit offering at-risk young people an opportunity for self-expression through music and song writing in a safe and exclusive environment.
The Gaimaragal Group will support eight First Nations women to participate in a multimedia art project where each participant adds to the artwork started by another sister.
Women and Children First will be providing a community cooking program for families impacted by abuse, mental health, social isolation and those with limited English.
Evergreen Music’s Tea By the Brook will offer a live music event series for artists and audiences to enjoy a vibrant and intimate experience. Collaborating with local businesses, and focussing on musical and cultural diversity, the series aims to fill the venue gap in the Sydney music scene, while providing mentorships for local sound engineers.
Creative workshops for local carers to connect and visualise their personal stories with collage. Facilitated by Angie Cass, a collage artist and community educator, and Nicole Buckland, a collage artist, educator, and occupational therapist.
Northside will employ people with a disability through Bushlink, engaging students at risk from the Beach School to work alongside them in restoring remnant bushland.
Wax Rat is a drama about a young girl who discovers joy in surfing amidst the breakdown of her family. Written and co-directed by local author Kirsty Eagar, adapted from a scene in her award-winning novel, Raw Blue, the grant will support them with post-production, produced with local creatives and crew.
A 2024 Fusion Pride Picnic Day in Dee Why will be held to celebrate and show support to LGBTQIA+ people and families in the local area.
These are only a few of the incredible community projects that will be funded thanks to Council’s Community Development and Arts and Creativity grants. You can find out more about the other successful projects here.
