Our grant programs for 2023/2024 are now open.

To help inspire you for this year’s environmental grants program, we shine a light on one of last year’s grant recipients, Bushlink.

We spoke to manager John Reid of Bushlink whose organisation is dedicated to creating valuable employment for people with disability through their environmental programs.

What is the goal of your project?

We are looking to enhance the ecosystem and habitat of the Long Reef coastal walk and the area surrounding Griffith Park, Collaroy.

What are the benefits?

This area is a precious wildlife refuge attracting many native animals and birds, including endangered ecological communities. Our bush work will help improve the quality of the habitat and biodiversity of the area.

What work is taking place?

Our trained Bushcare assistants with disability work closely with a supervisor carrying out weeding, planting and litter collection.

How does the program benefit the participants?

Employment with Bushlink provides our supported staff with a meaningful and life empowering purpose.

It helps them see themselves as positive members of the community – and helps the community see people with a disability contributing to great outcomes within public areas as well as the economy.
