The popular Federation Boardwalk reopens for public use this Saturday (10 August) following essential repairs.
The heritage walkway, which runs around Manly Pavilion and is a busy link on the Spit to Manly walk, was closed in March following advice it was unsafe for public use.
Significant works were completed below the boardwalk to ensure it was restored to a suitable condition including replacement of structural timbers, installation of posts and repair of timber decking and handrails.
Maintaining the heritage features of the walkway was a priority and careful planning was undertaken to ensure the materials used to repair it aligned with the heritage aspects of the boardwalk. Sections of the timber boardwalk that were in a satisfactory condition were reused to enhance the heritage feel and reduce waste associated with this project.
We thank the community for their patience while we completed this critical project.
