To help reduce localised bush fire risk , Council is organising a fine fuel collection for the offshore communities of Scotland Island, Coasters Retreat, Lower Western Foreshore and Mackerel Beach.
Fine fuels are less than the diameter of your little finger and include leaves, twigs and bark that can easily catch fire.
What offshore communities need to do?
1. Pick up a fine fuel bag supplied by Council - one bag per household is supplied. Bags will be available from:
- Scotland Island Fireshed
- Mackerel Beach Wharf
- North Elvina Bay, South Elvina Bay, Lovett Bay, Hall or Morning Bay
- Bonnie Doon Wharf or Bennetts Wharf
2. Clear your roof and rake up all the fine fuel around your house and tip it into the fine fuel bag
3. Place your filled fine fuel bag at the designated collection spot

4. Please note other vegetation will not be collected as part of the fine fuel collection. Council will deliver the bags on 28 January and residents will have 2 weeks to fill the bags before they are collected from the 17 February 2025.
Communities are reminded to not obstruct pedestrian access of public wharfs with vegetation bags, and to ensure vegetation bags are secured to avoid spillage.
In addition to the fine fuels collection, a bulky goods collection is scheduled for 24 February and the usual general vegetation collection is scheduled for 3 March.
