Happy Volunteer Week! This year's theme is 'Something for Everyone', and with over 900 volunteers supporting 13 Council services, there truly is something for everyone. 

It's a great reminder that whether you're passionate about our environment, community outreach, education, or something else entirely, there's a place where your unique skills and interests can make a difference in our local area.

This week, we want to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who help not only at Council but at organisations across the Northern Beaches too. Thank you!

We spoke to two of our amazing Meals on Wheels volunteers about what they love about volunteering for the service. 

Jason

When did you start volunteering?

I’m in my eighth year of volunteering at Meals on Wheels, and it’s the highlight of my week. 

Why did you get involved?

I started volunteering with a friend of mine, and we did it together. My friend eventually had to stop due to other commitments, but I loved it so stayed on. It’s great for me as a stay at home dad and as an expat my clients are like my surrogate family. 

What do you love about volunteering at Meals on Wheels?

I look forward to seeing my clients and chatting to them. One of the people I visit is 102 years old, and I love talking to her and hearing her stories. She is fascinating. 

Kelly 

When did you start volunteering?

I’ve been volunteering for 17 years – I volunteered in America where I’m from and then after moving to Australia I started volunteering at Meals on Wheels Manly. 

Why did you get involved?

I started out with a friend and we shared the driving and deliveries together. 

What do you love about volunteering at Meals on Wheels?

I love hearing the stories of our elderly clients – I like learning about Manly and what it was like to live here in years gone by. 

I have met so many awesome people from different backgrounds with so many incredible experiences. I’ve got so much out of volunteering at Meals on Wheels and highly recommend it!
