Locals have told us that they want more fun ways to engage with our beautiful open spaces on the Northern Beaches.  Adventure, exercise and nature play are all top of mind, as we can now proudly unveil the Open Space and Outdoor Recreation Strategy and Action Plan – Let’s Play!

Adopted following community consultation, the roll out over the next 15 years will include improvements to parks and playgrounds, plus key additions to our stunning beaches, foreshores, and bushland tracks

Improving quality recreation experiences for everyone, the diverse and inclusive plan is designed to cater to all. It will include the building of new outdoor bike parks, the putting in of playgrounds, designing of outdoor courts, installing of fitness equipment and upgrading our existing facilities to make them world class.

No matter how you like to enjoy nature there will be something for everyone, of every age and ability, not forgetting pristine nature, which will continue to be prioritised and preserved for future generations.

Council has developed a list of key actions to meet current and future needs, including:

  • Building additional playgrounds at Parkes Road Collaroy Plateau, Fielding Reserve Collaroy and Brick Pit Reserve Frenchs Forest.
  • Prioritising upgrades to playgrounds is with the intention to offer higher quality and more diverse play experiences to a broader range of people.

This includes developing new and improved off road cycling facilities for a broad range of interests and skills, including improvements to the Manly Warringah War Memorial State Park (Manly Dam) mountain bike trail, new bike parks, formalising some unauthorised trails and continuing to work with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) on additional cross tenure trails

Along the coast we will also be installing new outdoor fitness equipment and basketball, netball, multi-use sports courts to meet demand.
