The community who call the Northern Beaches home are more diverse than you might think with 1 in 3 residents born overseas and more than 110 different countries of birth.[1]

Northern Beaches residents tell us that a strong sense of community is one of the most important attributes that make the Northern Beaches a good place to live[2]. This is why we are investing in a leadership and mentoring program that will bring people together who are passionate about making the Northern Beaches more welcoming and inclusive.

We Belong: Intercultural Community Leaders Program is offering individuals with a passion for cultural diversity, community and inclusion, the opportunity to participate in a free 6-9 month long learning and development program.

Participants will develop key leadership and engagement skills, learn to play a vital role in cultural advocacy and connect with like-minded individuals. They’ll also have the opportunity to initiate and work together on 4 of their own projects to promote understanding and inclusion across cultures in early 2025.

Program highlights include 8 interactive training workshops covering topics such as intercultural awareness, ethical storytelling and community development. Council will also support participants with mentoring throughout the program period.

Participants will build community leadership and engagement skills, as well as boost connection and develop networks for future collaborations and advocacy.

Anyone passionate about culture and community, or those with an idea for a project to help connect people living on the Northern Beaches have until Sunday 11 August to apply. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of the month and the program will commence in early September.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the NSW Social Cohesion Grants for Local Government.
