A recently upgraded carpark at the North Curl Curl Community Centre comes with a handy environmental twist.
The new carpark which delivers 30 parking spaces along with improved accessibility to the centre also boasts a raingarden that reduces pollutants from entering Curl Curl Lagoon.
The car park has been designed so that stormwater runs into the raingarden and naturally treats it by filtering it through plants and other biofilter materials.
The treated water then soaks into the sandy soil before entering the lagoon.
The water-sensitive urban design means that up to 90% of nutrients and 80% of sediments are removed from the stormwater, as well as capturing any litter.
Removing nutrients from stormwater before it reaches our waterways reduces the chance of algae growing that can be harmful to our wildlife.
