Nominations are now open for the 2023 Eco Awards which recognise the amazing work of locals and groups conserving and protecting our unique natural environment.

The annual award recognises community members and groups who have volunteered their time and effort to enhance the region's diverse and valuable natural habitat across eight categories.

Last year’s winners were recognised for rescuing native animals, preserving habitat, and campaigning for change.

Lorraine Woodward was recognised for her valiant efforts as a volunteer for Sydney Wildlife Rescue since 2011. She was awarded the Caring for our Native Animals Award and we caught up with her to find out more about her incredible contribution to our community.

“I volunteer with a group of ladies, and we run the rehab centre for animals that can be released back into the wild. It’s an extremely rewarding routine that sometimes can be very frustrating and upsetting, but ultimately the joy of giving back something much bigger than us daily is very satisfying!

“Another member was kind enough to put me forward for the nomination and so I was surprised when I received the invitation to the awards, and even more so when actually receiving it in my category.  It was very inspiring to see so many interesting people in all sorts of categories. If you know someone doing something important for our environment, make sure you nominate them.” Ms Woodward said.

Do you know someone who deserves acknowledgment for their outstanding environmental and conservation achievements? If so nominate them now.

To qualify for entry, work must have been carried out in the Northern Beaches local government area in the past two years, except for the Individual Achievement Award (Lifetime Achievement) which recognises work of more than 25 years.
