For those who live on the Northern Beaches, we know we’re lucky to be surrounded by such amazing bushland and beaches. Our tourism operators know better than anyone else how important this is – not just to our community but to our wildlife.
It is no surprise then that so many of our local operators have banded together to tackle litter and keep our extraordinary backyard clean for visitors and locals alike!
Six operators—Manly Kayak Centre, NRMA Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park, Sailing Pittwater, Delve Northern Beaches, Bondi to Manly Ultra and Healing with Nature—have all joined Take 3 for the Sea’s Groundswell program.
Groundswell offers businesses the tools they need to tackle litter as part of their tourism offering to visitors. It aims to create awareness and instil a sense of custodianship for those visiting our area.
Council helped connect Groundswell with our network of local tourism operators, encouraging businesses to join the program.
Charlotte Huckstep from Manly Kayak Centre who recently conducted a beach litter check said:
“We were truly shocked to see the amount of rubbish washed up and left on the beach. We’re planning to survey the beach again this spring and summer to compile meaningful comparative data.
“Community education and local pride is the key to positive change in our LGA. At Manly Kayak Centre, we’re dedicated to enhancing the marine and coastal environment by developing sustainable initiatives to educate the community hence improving our surrounding environment.”
