Manly Federation Boardwalk will be temporarily closed around Boxing Day and New Year's Eve to manage crowd safety.
To ensure community safety, the Manly Federation Boardwalk, adjacent to Manly Pavilion, will be closed for two short periods during peak times, after Council identified aging timber elements in the timber walkway.
The two closure periods are when pedestrian loads are expected to be high:
- 9pm, Monday 25 December (Christmas Day) to 9pm, Tuesday 26 December (Boxing Day)
- 9pm, Saturday 30 December to 9am, Monday 1 January 2024 (New Years Day)
Security staff will monitor the site during these periods and signage will be installed around the area to inform the community and visitors.
West Esplanade and Commonwealth Parade is still open and readily accessible.
Council is planning and submitting approvals for repairs, amidst navigating sensitive environmental considerations involving the local penguin population breeding season and nearby critical seagrasses, as well as several heritage considerations.
