With summer just around the corner, all Northern Beaches patrolled beaches will be open for business - that is beach safety business - from this weekend.
Earlier this month, red and yellow flags went up at Dee Why and Freshwater Beach, while Manly Beach remains patrolled all year-round.
Red and yellow flags help beach goers easily identify patrolled areas to swim, with Council lifeguards and Surf Life Saving volunteers paying special attention to these areas.
Our lifeguards patrol surf beaches along our coastline 7 days a week and volunteers from the 21 surf lifesaving clubs provide support on the weekends. Together they manage beach safety to ensure visitors and residents alike are safe.
Last year over 13 million people visited our stunning local beaches. Lifeguards and lifesavers carried out over 2,000 rescues and attended to 7,364 first aid cases.
They are also kept busy directing swimmers to stay between the flags and away from rips.
Enjoy this summer’s beach weather - but remember to swim between the flags and always listen to lifeguards and lifesavers.
