Almost 200 skateboard decks designed by local young people and guest artists will be on display from Wednesday (18 April) at the Northern Beaches PCYC in Dee Why as part of ARTDECKO Skatedeck Art Exhibition.
In conjunction with National Youth Week, Northern Beaches Council is proud to host the fifth exhibition celebrating skate deck art.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said skate deck art is more popular than ever.
"This doesn't seem to be a passing trend. More and more people are taking an interest in designing and painting their own boards as a way of individualising their deck and a means of creative expression.
"This year we have double the number of skate decks on show than in previous years. There’s nearly 200 skate decks on exhibition including 160 from young people and the remaining from guest artists who have donated their time.” Mayor Regan said.
Along with sponsors Skater HQ and Humphreys Newsagency, local young entrepreneur Louis Wiart from Radical Fingerboards will be coordinating the fingerboard competition on Saturday.
The ARTDECKO drop-in workshops cost $10 each and run 10am - 2pm daily:
Wednesday 18: Mod podge and comic book wallet workshops
Thursday 19: Trucker cap workshop
Friday 20: Mini ARTDECKO workshop
Saturday 21: Radical fingerboard competition
You'll also be able to try out our mini ramp open for free skating, plus meet Skater HQ coaches from Wednesday 18 April to Friday 20 April, 2 - 5pm.
The exhibition will be open from Wednesday 18 April to Sunday 22 April from 9am - 5pm daily.
"Don't forget to enter our People's Choice Award. Every person that attends the exhibition is eligible to vote for their favourite skate deck," Mayor Regan said.
The most popular male and female artist’s skate decks will be announced on Sunday (22 April) with the winners receiving five skate decks with their print on them, courtesy of Skater HQ and Northern Beaches Council.
