Life's a beach thanks to the new 20-year leases at Surf Life Saving Clubs
Council is throwing greater support behind Surf Life Saving Clubs on the Northern Beaches by offering the surety of 20-year leases.
Stretching from Manly to North Palm Beach there are a 21 Surf Life Saving Clubs providing an invaluable community service to the Northern Beaches. In recognition of the value of this service to the community, Council will now work with 16 of our clubs to provide surety of tenure over the coming 20 years.
The new agreements, starting from 1 January 2023, are designed to offer these surf clubs new 20-year leases that allow for better planning and maintenance.
Mayor Michael Regan said the extension of tenure was well supported in the community and allows for longer term planning and fundraising.
"Providing these clubs with security in relation to tenure over the coming 20 years allows them to plan for their ongoing, long-term operations and make capital investment in their Surf Life Saving facilities,” Mayor Regan said.
“Community consultation conducted earlier this year was overwhelmingly supportive of the SLSC lease renewals. Many respondents mentioned the invaluable service these organisations provide to the community.
“Council values these services, and the great community interaction the clubs provide.”
