Final repairs are now complete along the iconic Marine Parade following the massive storm last year which caused major damage to the walkway, pool and amenities building.

The first stage of repairs was completed earlier this year so the walkway could be reopened and the newly rebuilt amenities block - the final stage of the repairs - has just been finished and is now open for public use.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Marine Parade is an iconic walkway, used by hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists who enjoy the Manly area every year.

"The storms did a significant level of damage – washing away sections of the seawall and walkway and completely destroying the amenities block,” Mayor Regan said.

“Council has now completed repairs to the footpath and kerb, sandstone seawall and capping, timber posts and handrail and now the amenities block is also finished.

“It is great to have these final works complete and open for public use.”

The new amenities block will provide a more accessible and family-friendly facility that will cater to the needs of the community in this environmentally sensitive area.

As part of the replacement, Council has also endeavoured to make the new amenities block more storm-tolerant. The main structural elements - the floor and walls - have been designed and constructed of reinforced concrete to resist wave impacts from extreme storm events.

This area has also been recently enhanced by the re-made Oceanides sculpture by Helen Leete which was also damaged during the storm of June 2016.

Meanwhile, work will start shortly on further amenity upgrades in Manly including the Library, and early in the New Year, Rialto Square and Whistler Street toilets.
