After 18 months of working closely with the community to develop a plan to make the Northern Beaches more inclusive and welcoming, Council has endorsed the Multicultural Inclusion Plan 2029.
Championing Diversity – Multicultural Inclusion Plan 2029 is a blueprint for greater inclusion, providing actions to ensure the Northern Beaches is a place where those from multicultural communities feel welcome and can participate in community life.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the Northern Beaches is more diverse than some people may realise, with residents from 123 different ancestries and over 110 countries of birth.
“Almost 1 in 3 people on the Northern Beaches were born overseas, and 1 in 2 have at least one parent born in another country,” Mayor Heins said.
“We all have a role to play in making sure the Northern Beaches is a place where everyone feels they truly belong and are included.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed to the development of this plan. Together, we are making the Northern Beaches an increasingly safe, diverse, inclusive and connected place to live and work – a place where everyone feels welcomed.”
More than 80% of the submissions received during the exhibition of the draft plan were supportive, or supportive with changes.
“What we know from the consultation process is that the community wants to see more anti-racism programs, greater engagement with cultural leaders and groups, and specific actions working with schools and parents,” Mayor Heins said.
“In response to the feedback, we’ve added five additional actions and amended some of the existing actions in the draft plan. It’s a great roadmap to ensure all people in our community have the same opportunities, regardless of their background.”
