A new category will be added to the Northern Beaches Council Australia Day awards for 2018 recognising the significant contribution seniors make to our local community.
The Northern Beaches Council Senior of the Year Award is open to all residents over the age of 65 and Council is calling for nominations for all Australia Day awards now.
Mayor Michael Regan said thousands of older people across the peninsula volunteer every day, support others or achieve extraordinary feats and it is wonderful to be able to recognise the difference they make through this award.
“Australia Day gives us a great opportunity to distinguish the most extraordinary Northern Beaches residents and ensure they are afforded the recognition they deserve,” Mr Regan said
“It is only fitting we add the category of Senior Australian to our award list given the incredible work our older residents do in our community.
“We all know someone who gives their all and makes a difference. I encourage all residents to look around and nominate someone who deserves to be recognised.”
The Senior of the Year Award will be added to other categories recognising Citizen if the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year.
There will also be an increase in the Outstanding Community Service Awards, from ten to fifteen across the council area.
