Possum Magic has captivated and enchanted us all for generations with over 5 million copies sold. Now you can catch this timeless Australian classic on stage in a brand new adaptation at Glen Street Theatre from 3 – 6 April, promising to be an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike.

Based on the original book by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas, the magical story will be brought to life by the award-winning Monkey Baa Theatre Company - Australia’s leading theatre company for young audiences, and is ideal for children aged three and over.

Grandma Poss uses her best bush magic to make Hush invisible so that Hush won’t be eaten by snakes.

Hush has lots of adventures but there comes a time when she wants ‘to know what she looks like.’

Grandma Poss leans over a pool of water with a fuzzy outline of Hush beside her and discovers Hush has no reflection in the mirrored surface of the pool.

Grandma Poss has trouble finding the magic to make Hush visible again and, although Hush tells her she doesn’t mind, ‘in her heart of hearts’ she does.

Eventually Grandma remembers that, ‘it’s something to do with food. People food, not possum food’ so she and Hush set off on a grand adventure around Australia to find the food that will make Hush’s dream come true.

Mem Fox is Australia’s most highly regarded picture-book author. Possum Magic, her first publication, remains the best-selling children’s book in Australia. Published 36 years ago, it is still available in hardback.

Mem has written many other internationally best-selling books for children including Time for Bed, Where Is The Green Sheep? and Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes, a copy of which was Australia’s official gift to Prince George, the new royal baby.

Winners of the 2016 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Production for Children for The Peasant Prince, Monkey Baa Theatre Company has been creating inspiring, award-winning theatre for young people, touring from bush to coast and across the seas since 1997.
