Northern Beaches Council wants to know what you think about proposed changes to car parking at four Council carparks in the Collaroy Beach area.
The NSW Roads and Maritime Services’ (RMS) is also investigating clearways along Pittwater Road corridor, including adjacent to Collaroy Beach, impacting the availability of on street parking spaces.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said Council had been contacted by a number of residents calling for more short term parking in these carparks so it’s easier to visit the beach, playgrounds and local businesses.
“Council is now seeking community input to our proposed carpark changes designed to balance the needs of all users.
“The proposed changes are focused on enabling more people to enjoy the local attractions like the beach, all abilities playground and local restaurants and shops by providing increased shorter-term parking in some nearby Collaroy carparks.
“These changes to parking conditions would affect the beach permit parking through the introduction of 4P parking in the Collaroy Playground carpark and the introduction of 2P parking in a portion of the northern Collaroy Beach Commuter carpark.” Mayor Regan said
The proposed changes would apply to all vehicles displaying a Northern Beaches Beach Permit or those who are paying for parking through the Pay & Display machines.
The four car-parking areas will be affected by the proposed changes:
- Collaroy Beach northern carpark (south section only) - proposed introduction of 2P parking which will apply to 32 parking spaces every day. 82 parking spaces will be available for commuter parking in the north section every day.
- Collaroy Beach middle carpark (to the south of The Beach Club Collaroy – proposed introduction of 1P parking which will apply to seven parking spaces every day and the introduction of three loading zones.
- Collaroy Beach playground carpark – proposed introduction of 4P parking which will apply to 58 car parking spaces every day.
- Collaroy Street council carpark (18 spaces) proposed introduction of 1P parking which will apply to 18 parking spaces every day.
These changes will not alter the number of disabled car-parking spaces nor dedicated surf club car parking spaces.

“While the introduction of the B-Line has provided improved transportation options for commuters, community feedback tells us the Collaroy Beach Playground carpark is filled with all-day commuter vehicles during the week.
This makes it difficult to find a car parking space when stopping for lunch, going to the movies or visiting the beach or playground.
We also know that business operations have changed from the traditional Monday-to-Friday and half-day Saturday to now trading a full seven-day week and into the evening.
