Northern Beaches Council is investing $453.5 million back into the community across the next 12 months, offering a balance of high quality services, key projects and infrastructure.
Mayor Michael Regan said the combined Delivery Program 2019-2023 and Budget 2019/20 is a responsible program and budget, with significant ongoing investment in capital projects, environment initiatives and quality services.
“Over $110 million will be invested in new and renewed assets across the Northern Beaches area including surf clubs, town centres, playgrounds, sporting facilities and sportsfields,” Mayor Regan said.
“Our commitment to improving roads and footpaths will also continue, with over $11 million in upgrades to roads, footpaths and kerb and gutter and new footpaths.”
Local surf clubs will benefit big time, with more than $5 million being invested in club upgrades and improvements - $2.4 million will be spent on upgrading Mona Vale Surf Club, $1.1 million to upgrade Long Reef Surf Club, and an additional $1.5 million towards improvements at other peninsula clubs.
“As completion of our incredible 36km Coast Walk from Manly to Palm Beach gets closer, we will invest $3.7 million to finish the section between Newport and Avalon and will also be integrating a number of public artworks along the path.
“This Delivery program builds on the success of former years, providing infrastructure, events and services that make living on the Northern Beaches even better.
“We’re also very pleased to be reinvesting an estimated $29.5 million in efficiency savings back to our ratepayers with new priority infrastructure, improved service levels and lower waste charges for ratepayers,’’ the Mayor said.
Additionally, Council will be investing $343 million into delivering services that the community highly values including libraries, childcare, street sweeping, mowing and maintenance of reserves and parks, domestic garbage collection and managing the natural environment.
“I’m proud to say that we have listened to the community and are prioritising the areas of need that our community has asked for,’’ the Mayor added.
“This includes increasing our cleaning services in public areas and providing more childcare places for children under three years of age.”
