Summer is set to sizzle on the Northern Beaches, with a range of fun-filled activities and events organised by Northern Beaches Council.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said that whether it’s something for the kids, an outing for the whole family or the excitement of New Year’s Eve, there is a range of activities for everyone.
“We have the best environment in the world and Council has planned a series of events to match that.
“From the beginning of December Manly will come alive with the Christmas spirit as Council installs colourful Christmas decorations right across Manly, and of course the Christmas Choral Concert on 7 December is another highlight. So pack a picnic and enjoy the Northern Beaches Orchestra and Northern Beaches Community Choir on Manly Oval.
“Another highlight for many families is Christmas by the Beach on 15 December, which provides a quality event on Dee Why Beach with children’s activities, rides, free photos with Santa and a stage show featuring traditional Christmas carols,” Mayor Regan said.
The ever popular Kids on the Coast is also back, with an exciting and educational range of activities at the Coastal Environment Centre, Narrabeen.
Glen St Theatre launches a searing Arthur Miller drama at the end of January set in 1950s Brooklyn.
For kids with disabilities, there is the Active Inclusion Sports Day on 12 December with the assistance of Sport NSW.
For indoor days, visit one of our aquatic centres or join a free activity at your nearest library. These include Children’s Summer Reading Club Bingo from 1 Dec to 24 Jan with a party on 25 Jan 3.30 - 5.30pm at Warringah Library Mall.
Our libraries are also hosting Christmas pantomime “Santa of the Never Never”, the “Game On” party games, a kids “Crime Scene Investigation”, hands-on rock pool exploration. For details search ‘library’ on Council’s website.
For outdoors, hit one of our 20 ocean beaches or our stunning ocean pools. Or enjoy a paddle on Manly Dam, Narrabeen Lagoon, Pittwater or Sydney Harbour.
Go skating or scooting at one of our popular skate parks or play at one of our 100+ playgrounds.
Or enjoy a good walk at Palm Beach, Narrabeen Lagoon, along the Curl Curl boardwalk, Manly Dam, or from Clontarf to Shelly Beach.
To see out 2017, join friends for the New Year’s Eve celebrations (including fireworks!) at Manly Cove (9pm), Dee Why Beach (9pm) and Bayview (9pm and midnight).
“And the World Food Markets are back and promising to be bigger and better. They are always a huge hit with the community and we are expecting another super summer season. So take your taste buds on a round the world trip without leaving the Northern Beaches,” Mayor Regan said.
The markets are on every Friday night from 5pm at Gilbert Park in Manly from 12 January to 23 March, excluding Australia Day.
Northern Beaches Council offers Vacation Care for young children. Catering for school children between 5 and 12 years old, our Vacation Care offers exciting excursions, discos, craft and sports days with a difference. We offer several locations and we give extra support to children with special needs so they can join in the fun.
Bookings open on Monday 20 November. Visit Council’s website and search ‘vacation care’.
And finally, Northern Beaches Council is organising a range of Australia Day activities at six locations. Celebrate with Big Breakfasts at Newport, Dee Why and Narrabeen or take in the citizenship ceremonies at Glen St Theatre then cool off at one of our aquatic centre pool parties. More details closer to the date.
