Young people aged 6-to-12 years will create ceramic artworks inspired by native animals and historic buildings during two guided creative workshops hosted by Manly Art Gallery & Museum on Tuesday 16 January (sessions 10am - 12 noon or 2 - 4pm).
Children taking part will gain ideas by exploring Manly Art Gallery & Museum’s sweeping new exhibition, North Head Project, inspired by Sydney Harbour’s dramatic gateway headland.
Guided by artist Helen Earl (whose own works appear in the exhibition), children will shape their own creations out of clay - and then enter them into a group installation!
Drawing on the works of 10 contemporary artists, the North Head Project exhibition will provide loads of inspiration by revealing the headland’s complex Aboriginal and cultural heritage, environmental significance, military history and unique migration stories.
“The beauty and drama of the headlands, waterways and history of the North Head have inspired a host of wonderful artists over the past two centuries, including Helen Earl,” said Senior Curator at Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Katherine Roberts.
“I’m sure there are many aspiring young artists out there who will be just as keen to express their appreciation of North Head’s magnificent features and benefit from Helen’s expertise ,” said Ms. Roberts.
Cost: $30 (all materials and refreshments included).
Bookings essential: 9976 1421 or artgallery@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au
