The impressive new Mona Vale Surf Life Saving Club opened with a bang last weekend.
The day’s events started with a traditional smoking ceremony by Leslie McLeod, followed by an official ribbon cutting and finished with a community celebration.
The occasion marked the completion of the $10 million project which includes a purpose-built clubhouse and a beach amenities block just north of the main building.
The clubhouse took around 13 months to complete but was the result of more than 10 years of consultation and planning.
It provides a base for the 1300 club members and offers space for the community to come together and take advantage of the spectacular location.
Upstairs, elevated glass pavilions house the new restaurant The Basin Dining Room, as well as a lounge and function room that anyone can hire.
Downstairs includes The Brightside Café, operated by the Nine Yards Coffee, as well as a first aid room, nippers’ facilities, storage, family change space and an accessible toilet.
Aboriginal art is also tied into aspects of the building with artists Michael Glasheen and Leslie McLeod commissioned to develop works for the outdoor space.
