Kate Butcher has moved into the artist studios at Eramboo after being announced as the Artist in Residence for the next six months.
Kate, an established multi-faceted artist and producer will use her residency to develop a new project celebrating and embodying the unique area we live in, then showcase it at the end of her residency.
This unique opportunity, offered annually, also connects artists with other creatives who casually use the space.
Local artists and audiences will have the opportunity to engage with Kate’s work throughout her residency.
This will include workshops exploring new technologies in creative practice, an exhibition of the residency outcomes, and a mentorship with Kate for local emerging artists.
Keep an eye on our What’s On calendar, and subscribe to Creative News, to be the first to hear about these events and opportunities.
Kate intends to leverage spatial scanning as both a technique and a method for mapping and shaping space to explore the dramatic composition of artistic practice during her residency.
“I’m so thrilled to be chosen for this residency. My primary focus will revolve around two key frames: 'nature and destroyed landscapes' and 'society and concentrations' contemplating what kind of artistic experiences and actions we can establish with inclusiveness and sustainability in mind.
“This contemplation necessitates an examination of the detrimental substrates created by human actions on Earth and questioning the potential risks and positive contributions that art can make in shaping future solutions that foster collaboration between human and ecological relationships.”
Eramboo Artist Environment, located in Terrey Hills, is surrounded by the inspirational bushland of Ku-ring-gai National Park providing a peaceful sanctuary for artists in the middle of the bush and a source of inspiration.
A $3,000 allowance for materials is also provided as part of the award.
The residency will conclude in June 2024. Read more about the artist.
