If you dream about riding Bare Creek’s trails but aren’t sure where to start developing your skills, you’ll be excited to hear we’re building a new bike park for kids and new riders.
Located in Belrose, Wyatt Avenue Bike Park will provide a place for young and new riders to safely practise and learn skills before progressing to more challenging trails.
It’s being built in partnership with Trail Care and will include a loop trail, bike launching area, a viewing platform and more.
We spoke to Matt Ward from Trail Care to find out what the community can expect to find at the new bike park.
“Wyatt Bike Park has the potential to be an amazing new space for young riders to learn skills and build confidence before tackling Council’s more advanced facilities at Bare Creek and Manly Dam,” said Matt.
“The plan is to deliver a fun learning environment which is suitable for even the youngest of riders. We've been speaking with local skills coaches and parents of local riders, and from that have gained a clear understanding of what's missing and what’s needed.
“The aim is to provide a playground, but for kids with bikes. Rather than just a loop trail, there will be several fun features for kids to build their skills and enjoy their time on bikes.”
As part of the project, Council is also protecting the surrounding bushland by removing the weeds currently on site and replacing them with trees and shrubs native to the local area.
The bike park is expected to be complete by the end of the year, just in time for some summer fun.
