Our community is more diverse than you might think. We have a long and proud history of being a multicultural community with residents from 123 different ancestries and over 110 countries of birth calling the Beaches’ home. Almost 1 in 3 people here were born overseas, and 1 in 2 have at least one parent born abroad.
As a community, we have a collective responsibility to ensure the Northern Beaches is a place where everyone feels included and has a sense of belonging. Our draft Multicultural Inclusion Action Plan, developed with over 500 community members, is our first step to ensure that everyone feels welcome and supported here, no matter their background.
Our community is united in their commitment to becoming an increasingly safe, diverse, inclusive and connected Northern Beaches - a place everyone belongs. Read our plan, take the 5-minute survey and be part of making it happen.
Another way you can get involved is by adding your photos to our virtual scrapbook that will capture culture on the Northern Beaches. Post your pics on the website. By taking the survey or sharing your photos, you’ll also go into the draw to win one of 3 x $100 vouchers.
What’s in the plan?
These are the areas you told us to focus on:
Cultural expression: Ensure diverse cultural expression is visible and present in our community, celebrating the richness of our backgrounds.
Goodwill, respect, and equity: Everyone deserves respect and should feel valued as an integral part of our community.
Workforce opportunities: Enhance opportunities and visibility for multicultural communities in our local workforce, promoting inclusivity.
Inclusive services, programs, and activities: Social infrastructure should be inclusive and accessible for all, ensuring that multicultural communities can engage fully in programs and activities.
Community languages: Language is vital for accessing information and fostering a sense of belonging.
Planning and engagement: Decision-making processes ensure that multicultural communities have a seat at the table, actively participating in shaping our collective future.
Partnerships: Multicultural communities desire meaningful relationships—with each other and with the broader community.
