We are well and truly into the festive season, and to celebrate we sat down with our Meals on Wheels clients to find out their Christmas traditions. From festive feasts to cherished memories, their stories remind us of what the festive season is all about.
Charles, 98 years old told us, “My favourite Christmas tradition is Christmas lunch. There’s turkey and all the trimmings.”
John, 85 said, “This is a time for all families, whether they like each other or not, to get together and perhaps give presents to each other but at least be friendly.”
Pamela shared a beautiful festive memory, “I remember going across to Bondi Beach for a swim in the ocean and then coming home and having a big lunch, then going and having a sleep after that.”
Pat said “I usually spend it with my grandchildren and son but this year it’ll be friends and family where I will have a lovely big meal but start the day with church.”
Peter, 98 years old told us, “I get together with the sons and their wives and a couple of grandchildren. Plenty to eat with prawns – that starts it all off.”
Bruce shared what he loved about the festive season, “Friends and family getting together. It’s about loving people and being kind, and helping people. I just enjoy it.”
