Our grants programs for 2022/2023 is now open.

To help inspire you for this year’s environmental grants program, we shine a light on one of last year’s grant recipients, Avalon Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

We spoke to Richard Cole, Vice President of the club.

What is the goal of your project?

By installing high quality solar panels and battery storage, we aim to make our club the first in NSW to completely eliminate its carbon footprint.

What are the benefits?

In the fourteen months since we installed the solar system we have produced 48.16MWh of energy and saved 29,042kg of carbon emissions. This is the equivalent of 564 trees planted. Additionally, our electricity bills have more than halved!

What are the next steps?

Stage 2 of the project will see us install the batteries, saving even more emissions. It’s also a significant financial benefit to the club, especially over the long term. It will allow us to spend more on our essential rescue and training equipment.

This project makes our club members proud of not only our emergency rescue services, but also demonstrating environmental leadership within the community.
