Let’s do everything possible to avoid waste going to landfill

Avoiding waste is easier and better for the environment than managing waste once it’s created, so let’s try avoid it altogether!

Tips to avoid waste

  • Avoid single use plastics - use reusable coffee cups, water bottles and shopping bags when you can. Learn more about the upcoming plastic ban.
  • Put a ‘no junk mail’ sticker on your letterbox.
  • Refuse unnecessary packaging - avoid buying fruit and vegetables wrapped in plastic or on a styrofoam tray.
  • Rethink - try planning your meals and write a list so that you don’t overbuy, shop too often or waste food and other resources.
  • Get back to the basics and learn from our grandparents on how they avoided waste and conserved resources when things were tough in the post war era.
