Ray Cox was an outstanding community member who was instrumental in the ongoing rehabilitation of the Curl Curl Lagoon, among the many local causes he championed.
So it is only fitting that the viewing deck on Curl Curl Lagoon at John Fisher Park be renamed the Ray Cox Viewing Deck.
Council approved the name change at its meeting this week in honour of Mr Cox and in recognition of the significant contributions he made to community, environmental and social justice causes on the Northern Beaches.
The name change was supported by the Cox family and Curl Curl Lagoon friends.
An interpretive sign at the viewing deck will be installed by the end of June next year, also in consultation with Mr Cox’s family and the Curl Curl Lagoon Friends.
Mr Cox was a founding life member of the Curl Curl Lagoon Friends Inc and also played a major role in the rehabilitation of bushland at the Alan Newton Reserve, Stirgess Reserve and Greendale Creek.
He was also a member of the Save Manly Dam Catchment Committee and he advocated for the heritage listing and ongoing conservation of Manly Dam.
A memorial bench seat will be installed at the Stirgess Reserve Garden at John Fisher Park at the request of Mr Cox’s family.
