Newport Beach is 1.3km long, running from Newport Head in a gentle arc to Little Reef, a 1km long sandstone reef.
Conditions
Good swimming and body surfing conditions
Strong shore break at times
Excellent surfing conditions at the north end
Good surfing breaks along the beach. Best in north easterly winds
Surfing
Known for two breaks: Newport peak and Newport pool.
The peak is a peaking left and right hander with a small take off zone. It can be a competitive spot to catch a wave due to the crowds.
Newport pool is at the southern end of the beach and handles the large south swells. Definitely not for beginners.
