St Matthews Farm is located in the suburb of Cromer along the floodplain of South Creek.
Vegetation
The reserve supports a remnant pocket of Swamp Sclerophyll Forest, a threatened ecological community listed under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016. The dominant canopy species within the reserve include Sydney Peppermint (Eucalyptus piperita), Sydney Red Gum (Angophora costata) and Swamp Mahogany (Eucalyptus robusta). The mid story is diverse containing Forest Grass Trees (Xanthorrhoea medina) and Swamp Banksia (Banksia robur) , both of which provide an important food source for native birds, possums and insects.
Fauna
St Matthews Farm contains core habitat that is important for local and threatened fauna residing and moving through the landscape. This site is a registered survey area for the National Swift Parrot/Regent Honey Eater surveys undertaken annually. The importance of this reserve for surveying is due to the abundance of Swamp Mahogany's that flower during the winter months providing a food source for many bird species including Swift Parrots.
