This event is conceived to enable participants (disabled surfers) to get out in the water in a safe and controlled environment with the support of a team of volunteers. The event starts with volunteers being briefed as to what to expect on the day and they will also be teamed up with Red Shirt Team leaders who will help / guide them in and out of the water. Volunteering consists of helping surfers to and from the beach, assisting them in and out of the water including tandem board riding. Volunteers do not need to know how to surf, they just need to be willing to get involved and have some fun!
Drinks and fruit will be provided throughout the day to ensure everyone is well hydrated and has the energy to keep putting Smiles on Dials. A sausage sizzle BBQ will be provided for lunch and the day will end with a presentation to celebrate our surfers.
We will start setting up the event from just after sunrise, and the event will go on rain or shine! The event will formally begin at 10am and finish at 2pm (some time to set up and pack down will be required).
