Plastic bottle and plate

"Walking my dog along Curl Curl Beach, I noticed bright plastic fragments surfacing from the old tip site. Each day, I collected a handful or two. Handfuls became bags. Bags became buckets. Within months, I had started a beach clean-up, volunteered with several local waste-focused community groups, and launched a business educating school kids about plastic pollution. Four years on, I’m still working as an environmental educator, and my obsession with plastic hasn’t waned. But one issue isn’t getting enough attention—the impact of plastic on human health.

When people think of plastic pollution, they often picture a turtle tangled in a plastic bag. But what they don’t see is how insidious microplastics and their additives are in our daily lives. Initially, I set out to protect the environment, but I’ve realised that protecting the environment also means protecting ourselves. Now, I’m driven to share everything I’ve learned about plastic pollution and use my passion, education, and experience to help others live longer, healthier lives in an increasingly plastic-filled world."

Doors open at 7:30 to grab yourself a refreshment before the presentation. Prior to this, why not take a look around Curly Community Garden just next door to the venue?
