Established in 2000 to acknowledge residents of the former Manly area, the Manly Pathway of Olympians and Paralympians now recognises and celebrates residents of the Northern Beaches selected to represent Australia in Olympic and Paralympic sporting competition.

The Pathway is located along East and West Esplanade in Manly and recognises over 100 Olympians and Paralympians.

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for nominees from 1 July 2024:

  • Nominees are to have been formally selected to represent Australia in Olympic or Paralympic sporting competition (summer and winter).
  • If the nominee was selected to represent Australia in Olympic or Paralympic sporting competition on or after 12 May 2016 (the date of Council’s formation) the nominee must have been a resident of the Northern Beaches for at least 5 years prior to the date of selection or representation.
  • If the nominee was selected to represent Australia in Olympic or Paralympic sporting competition prior to 12 May 2016 the nominee must have been a resident of the former Manly Council (Balgowlah, Balgowlah Heights, Clontarf, Fairlight, Manly, Seaforth, and parts of Manly Vale) for at least 5 years prior to the date of selection or representation.

Assessment

  • Nominations for a plaque on the Pathway are to be made by completing and submitting a nomination form.
  • Nominations are to include supporting information confirming selection and residency.
  • There is no closing date for submitting nominations.
  • Please allow up to 4 weeks for Council to assess a nomination depending on all required information being submitted.
  • The assessment will use information provided in the nomination submission, however Council may use information about a nominee that is or becomes known to Council during Council’s business, as well as any publicly available information.
  • All applicants will be informed in writing of the receipt of their nomination and the outcome.

Induction

  • Approved nominees (inductees) will be recognised with a plaque along the Pathway in Manly
  • Inductees will also be recognised on the online Northern Beaches Sporting Honour Roll

If the nominee was selected to represent Australia prior to 12 May 2016 the nominee must have been a resident of the former Manly Council ( Balgowlah, Balgowlah Heights, Clontarf, Fairlight, Manly, Seaforth, part of Manly Vale) for at least 5 years prior to the date of selection or representation.
