Heritage walks

Take an informal stroll along the coast to discover shipwreck sites, go inland a little to explore our industrial or sports history, see the brickworks and old tramshed. Maybe it’s time for a coffee on The Corso or a visit to one of the areas oldest churches, Manly Congregational Church in Sydney Road.

Shelly Beach Walk

A short walk beginning at Manly Surf Club. Shelly Beach Walk gives you a glimpse of Cabbage Tree Bay’s unique marine life, its animals and history through sculptures along the way. Walk past the historic Fairy Bower baths and up to the lookout on the headland.

Cabbage Tree Bay Coastal Walk

Cabbage Tree Bay is bounded by South Steyne Beach and the walkway connecting Manly Beach to Shelly Beach. Explore this marine enclave in a wheelchair and pram-friendly 2km beach front stroll.

Manly Eastern Hill Heritage Walk

Manly Eastern Hill Heritage Walk takes in a combination of historical buildings, bushland and national park, including Aboriginal sites. You can also visit the beaches on the fringes. This walk showcases the area’s traditional and contemporary history. It offers views over Sydney Harbour to the city and back towards Manly.

Follow the numbered plaques for 4km to find out about the area’s philosophers, artists, politicians and sporting heroes, some of whom have shaped Sydney. Finish with a dip in the ocean or a cold beer overlooking the harbour at Manly Wharf.

Manly Scenic Walkway

Manly Scenic Walkway is a number of connecting walks through Sydney Harbour National Park, bushland reserves and harbourside streets. Walk from Manly to Spit Bridge, a 10km walk which offers spectacular views of the harbour entrance. Or, the North Head circuit track takes you through natural beauty spots and local history.

Dee Why Heritage Walk

Dee Why Heritage Walk takes you past art, architecture, memorials and natural heritage. For a longer walk, detour to Stony Range Regional Botanic Garden and explore the sensory track and bush food garden. This is an easy, 3.5km walk.

Brookvale Heritage Walk

The diversity of Brookvale's history will amaze you on this easy 2.8km loop walk. Learn about the suburb's pioneers and progression towards an important employment and industry precinct.
