Northern Beaches Council is restoring a section of endangered coastal rainforest on the Manly Scenic Walkway in Clontarf. Overlooking Sydney's Middle Harbour, Fisher Bay’s Bushland Restoration improves accessibility and enhances the experience of locals and visitors to this natural gem.
Cultural and Environmental Significance
Covering approximately six hectares of harbour foreshore, this scenic natural bushland area is listed as an Endangered Ecological Community. Fisher Bay also has great cultural significance, being an important site for the Gayamaygal people, the traditional owners of the land.
Fisher Bay Restoration Project
The Fisher Bay Bushland Restoration Project has an ongoing program to remove invasive species and revegetate the area with local native plants. Educational signs installed throughout the area tell visitors and locals about the bushland area's heritage value and the work being done to protect it.
Community Involvement
A key part of the project has involved supporting our local residents in undertaking bushland friendly activities and planting within their own properties. This community contribution creates a more harmonious connection throughout the area and a buffer zone between residential and bushland zones.
