- These Terms & Conditions are subject to change at any time to adhere to relevant Public Health Orders.
- All entrants must be between the ages of 12 -19, as of 1 March 2021.
- Entrants cannot be signed to a record or publishing label.
- Entrants will be required to attend the entrant recording session on Wednesday 7 April 2021 at Glen Street Theatre to have 1 song recorded - either an original OR cover (if a cover, the original artist must be acknowledged).
- Entrants, or at least 1 member of a performance group, should be available to attend the performer workshop the evening of Wednesday 31 March 2021 at the Warringah Mall Library.
- Entry song recorded at Glen Street Theatre must be no longer than 4 minutes, including a brief introduction of yourself and what you will be performing. You may need to be creative with the structure of songs to fit within the time limit (removing a verse or two etc.).
- Performances must be of an acoustic or "unplugged" nature - entrants may plug their instruments into an amp if they wish, but it must be set to a clean tone. Amplification of sound that significantly modifies the instrument are not permitted (distortion etc.). Drum kits are NOT permitted, however light percussion such as cajons are fine.\
- Groups of up to a maximum of 5 members may enter the competition. Soloists and duos are encouraged.
- Entrants must arrive at Glen Street Theatre for their recording session and time slot at their given call time. Failure to arrive at your given call time may result in your disqualification.
- Entrants will be required to submit a short written bio, and image of themselves or their performance group (whichever applies), which may be promoted via the KALOF Facebook.
- Entrants must provide photographic consent to allow their recording to be published online via KALOF and Council webpages. For entrants under 18 years of age, parental permission is required.
- Entrant recordings will be released online via KALOF.com.au during National Youth Week (16-25 April) to be judged and for public viewing/voting.
- An internal assessment panel will score each recording based on the following categories: Musicianship, Originality & Creativity, Stage Presence and Youth Audience Appeal (10 points each) for a total out of 40 points.
- Entrants that decide to enter a cover song rather than an original song to be recorded will need to ensure the cover is their own and arranged to their own taste/style to ensure they are not significantly disadvantaged when scored for Originality & Creativity.
- Up to 10 finalists will be selected from all entrants based on the internal panel's scores.
- Entrants will be notified via email as to whether they were successful (progressing to the Finals stage) or unsuccessful.
- Those that are not selected to proceed to finals may request feedback from the internal assessment panel to support their musical development.
- Finalists will be required to perform at Glen Street Theatre on the evening of Friday 7 May 2021 (pending COVID-19 restrictions and associated public health orders).
- Finalists will be required to play TWO songs at the final night - both a cover AND original (one of which being the same song they had recorded). Please ensure you have prepared both songs prior to finalists being announced. The final night performances of 2 songs will be limited to 10 minutes per performer/group (not including bumping on and off stage).
- Finalists will be judged by an external panel of expert judges for scoring based on the same criteria as the internal assessment live at Glen Street Theatre on the 7th of May 2021.
- Final night performances will be to a live audience (capacity pending COVID-19 and public health order restrictions) and streamed online via the KALOF Facebook Page.
- Performers overall scores in the Finals will be based on judges points, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be determined by the judges.
- People's Choice Award will be determine during the online phase of the competition, and will be based on votes received from the public during exhibition of recordings online between 16 - 25 April. The recording with the highest number of votes will be awarded People's Choice and invited to the Final & Awards Night on 7 May to recieve their award. Finalists and/or Judge's Choice winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and/or Most Viewed award winners are able to also win the People's Choice award and are not excluded from winning the category.
- Most Viewed Award will be determined during the online phase of the competition, and will be based on the most views of the recording during exhibition of recordings online between 16 - 25 April. The recording with the most views will be awarded Most Viewed and invited to the Final & Awards Night on 7 May to recieve their award. Finalists and/or Judge's Choice winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and/or People's Choice award winners are able to also win the Most Viewed award and are not excluded from winning the category.
- The Junior Encouragement award will be selected in consultation with the internal judging panel and/or the external judging panel and will be invited/awarded at the Final & Awards night on 7 May 2021.
- Online voting for the People's Choice award will be limited to 1 vote per person, and voters must submit their full name a valid email address and sign up to the KALOF newsletter to vote.
- If a person is found to have submitted more than 1 vote, all votes associated with that voter will not be counted. If the person is found to be associated with the performer for whom they have voted multiple times, the performer may be disqualified.
- Entrants who progress to the Finals arrive at Glen Street Theatre for the finals show at the given call time to ensure they have an opportunity to sound check prior to the show. Failure to arrive at your given call time may result in disqualification.
- Stage set up for the Entry Recording Session AND Final Night will include 3 microphone inputs and 3-5 instrument inputs - no drum kits permitted. Light percussion permitted.
- Entrants are expected to tailor their performances appropriately for an under 18s audience.
- The internal assessment panel, and external judge’s decisions are final and no arguments will be entered into. Internal and external panels may comprise of youth workers, musicians, sound technicians, special guests, sponsors and other industry professionals.
- Due to the popularity of the contest and that it is sponsored by Northern Beaches Council, absolute preference is given to performers from the Northern Beaches region. Secondary preference goes to Northern Sydney region (Mosman, North Sydney, Ryde, Lane Cove, Ku-ring-gai, Hornsby, Hunters Hill & Willoughby). Other outside area performers will only be considered if places are not taken up by performers from the Northern Beaches and Northern Sydney regions.
- A maximum of 30 entry places are available. Those who enter after all 30 places have been filled will go onto a wait list.
- Breaches in these conditions may result in disqualification or loss of points.
- It is the performer’s responsibility to claim prizes from sponsors within six months or date set by sponsor. An introduction email will be provided indicating the band has won. Prizes are void after this time.
- Participants indemnify Northern Beaches Council and its agents for any actions, claims or demands of any kind resulting in personal injury, property loss or actions of performers. It is advised that the Finals Recording Session venue is covered under council public liability insurance coverage. Performers are advised to seek their own legal advice on their personal insurance requirements.
- All performers (and their parent/guardian if under 18 years) agree to allow information, photos and video provided or taken to be used for Council advertising or promotional purposes.
- All performers (and the parent/guardian of performers under 18 years) have read and understand the Northern Composure Unplugged 2021 Terms & Conditions of Entry.
