iPads for Creative Expression and Independence

Through a series of interactive workshops, this project aims to empower people with disability how to access an iPad, how to use an iPad for creative expression and how to use them for environmental home control. The project involves conducting 6 x 2 hour workshops presented by an assistive technology expert.

Best Start Program

Provision of new information sessions for multiple birth families including Basic First Aid for children, how to care for premature babies and individual lactation consultant support.

Beaches Wellbeing: Provision of Mental Health First Aid Courses

To deliver the accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Courses - both the Standard and the Youth MHFA to volunteers of groups such as the Northern Beaches Women's Shelter, adult leaders of church youth groups, sports coaches and other not-for-profit organisations on the northern beaches. This training will equip participants with skills to identify and support someone who may be developing a mental illness, experiencing the worsening of a mental illness or be in a crisis situation

Communication support tools for non-verbal students with autism at Aspect Vern Barnett School

The project gives individuals who are non-verbal or have limited verbal abilities a method of independently and spontaneously expressing themselves in any setting through using an "Accent 1000" device with "Language Acquisition through Motor Planning" (LAMP) software.

GIMME SHELTER! Shelter, Shade & Sharing Space

The funding is provided to build a covered shade structure on a currently unusable open space to make a welcoming space for greater inclusion, sharing, education and shelter.

Community Compost Project

This project concerns upgrading and expanding the community composting facility. Funding is provided for two additional compost bins, shading for the worm farms, benches for an outdoor classroom, shelving and storage.

Creative Holiday Art Workshops

This project will provide 4-5 creative arts holiday workshops (over 3 school holidays) to provide opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged children to access creative and cultural activities to support improved therapeutic and social outcomes. Additionally, a sensory based 'Messy Art" play kit will be developed for children to manage their anxiety and overall development including learning outcomes.

Neighbour Day is Every Day - Social Isolation Program

This grass roots community campaign seeks to encourage people to get involved and connect with older people in their neighbourhood. The project also aims to promote local support services.

Homeless Outreach Support

This grant will provide homeless people with swags and sleeping bags, food parcels and other essential material aid. Funding will also assist the Homeless Outreach Support Worker with an e-tablet, internet access, mobile phone and travel costs to increase outreach capacity.

Northern Beaches Volunteering Project

The funding will cover costs for several multicultural programs run by volunteers, including: Driving instruction for Tibetan settlers, English lessons, Homework Club, Employment Help, and Cooking lessons/lunch box ideas.

Personal Safety for Young Women

A free workshop on personal safety will be provided to teenage girls from local high schools. It will involve activities and storytelling about violence in a range of situations including home, school, social or individual contexts.

Supported Playgroup for Migrants and Socially Isolated Families

This funding is to expand the Supported Playgroup for vulnerable families living in the Dee Why/Brookvale area. It focuses on the development of literacy, numeracy, communications skills, as well as on healthy lifestyles, parenting skills, cultural and social interaction.

Tibetan Community Settlement Project

Funding to help support a sociological research study on migration and settlement of the Tibetan community in partnership with Macquarie University. The project aims to gain a better understanding of an emerging (new) community within an established community.

Rebuilding and Ensuring our Future

This project will provide resources to participants to access Ancestry.com and Find My Past and to teach interested members how to make use of these programs as part of overall training in Genealogy.

Community Engagement

A Fee waiver was granted to the Soccer Club to facilitate community engagement activities for disadvantaged groups in Dee Why.

Backing Yourself as an Artist

Funding will help facilitate four weekly workshops during Art Month (March) 2019 including a mentorship program to assist artists in creating a sense of cohesion and enable rethinking how to be an artist in the digital world.

Innovating A New Pathway-to-Work for People with Disabilities

Funding towards a gardening training program (GROW) for people with disabilities utilising the five inclusive Belrose playgrounds as training sites.

Accidental Counsellor Program

A 2-day workshop will focus on a range of practical and effective skills to step into the shoes of an accidental counsellor and be able to appropriately respond and support people when they are angry, distressed or experiencing a challenging time.

One-to-One Literacy Tuition for Adults

Forty adult learners from the Northern Beaches will receive one-on-one tuition free of charge from professionally guided volunteer tutors. At least fifteen new volunteers from the Northern Beaches LGA will receive 25 hours training to become literacy tutors.

Expect Respect - Group Program

Funding towards 2 x 6-week psycho-educational program for women who are or have recently experienced intimate partner abuse. The program will provide support and empower them to make informed decisions about their own and their children's future.

First Aid for Families

A First Aid workshop that provides practical skills on how to manage baby and child related emergencies in a relaxed, family friendly environment.

Beach Wheelchair for Ripper Nippers

Funding towards a new beach wheelchair to enable children using wheelchairs to participate in the Ripper Nipper program. It will also make North Curl Curl beach more accessible to other wheelchair users in the community.

Artability Program

This program aims to make creative art activities accessible to people with intellectual and physical disabilities within the Northern Beaches community.

The Carers Café

Funding is for hosting monthly meetings for carers facilitated by trained professionals in a safe, calm and friendly environment. The Café gives carers an outlet for their feelings and opportunity to connect with people who may have had, or are having, a similar experience to their own.

Relocation Costs of the Northern Beaches Orchestra

NBO rehearses weekly at Narrabeen Sports High School. Funding is granted for installation of storage for music instruments at the school and for purchasing of 4 new chairs for the cellists for the three orchestras (NBO, NBYO and the Junior Strings).

Dementia Friendly Community, Northern Beaches

This project aims to raise awareness and encourage organisations and services to become dementia-friendly. The funding will be towards workshops, intergenerational school education program, and music therapy for people living with dementia.

Emergency Flood Boat - Fast Access

The grant is for installation of a new remote-controlled door at the  SES boat storage facility. This will improve the SES response times to the community in flood situations.

Rescue 101: WIRES Northern Beaches Volunteering Program

This project will develop a free online course to empower people with the knowledge to rescue native animals without further specialised training.

Teen Talk Education Program

This program supports teens to manage their mental health and wellbeing as well as to provide support for others. It will be provided at Avalon, Dee Why and Frenchs Forest and is for youth (aged 12-24) living and/or attending school on the Northern Beaches.

Senior's Toy Drive 4 Needy Children

To allow access for socially isolated people, often living in an aged care facility, to meet in a safe and friendly environment and have access to a working space. Together they ensure that good quality pre-loved toys go to disadvantaged children.

Mental Health First Aid Training Courses

To provide Mental Health First Aid training to local community members to enable participants to interact and provide help for people suffering a crisis; mental health, psychotic episodes or drug related problems. It will also work towards reducing bullying and teaching skills for how to deal with bullies.

Keep Charlie's Chariot on the Water

Sailability provides sailing in modified boats for people aged 8+ with disabilities regardless of their ability. This grant is to ensure maintenance of a support boat whenever Manly Sailability boats are sailing in Manly Cove.

FitAbility Sunnyfield Sports Day

This grant is towards a Sports Camp for 65 supported employees of Sunnyfield and 25 support workers from the Northern Beaches. People with disabilities are encouraged to participate in physical activity and try different sports in a safe and nurturing environment, giving them the confidence to test their own abilities and build on existing skills.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Course

The grant is to provide YMHFA training to 21 candidates who are willing to work with young Surf Life Saving (SLS) Club members in relation to mental health issues. The goal is for each SLS Club within the Northern Beaches branch to have an appropriately qualified Youth MHFA Officer.

Ocean Friendly Program

This program aims to reduce the environmental impact of single-use plastics by encouraging food and beverage outlets to use reusable or non-plastic alternatives. Further, the program encourages efficient water and energy usage as well as ethically sourced food and other consumables at the participating venues.

Art & Sole

This program aims to promote arts and culture in the northern end of the Northern Beaches and Newport as cultural destination. Activities will include a sculpture trail in participating retail and community outlets, live art performances, music, drama and dance street performance over a period of two weeks.

Purchase of a Night Vision System

The fast response rescue vessel is available for emergency call out 7 days a week at a short notice. The funding is for installation of a night vision camera system which will greatly increase the vessel's operational capability during periods of low visibility and darkness.

Know Your Neighbour on Warriewood Beach

This funding is to support a local initiative for youth and families to engage in healthy and fun surf activities at Warriewood Beach. The activities will include surf awareness; learning to surf, beach volleyball and a tour of the local headland and surrounds.

Summer Swim & Survive Camps

Summer Swim & Survive Camps for children and adults provide swimming and water safety lessons, including CPR training. This program has a focus on disadvantaged and multicultural communities on the Northern Beaches. This grant will help increase the capacity of the program by the introduction of the Swim Instructor Trainee Program.
