What goes in your yellow bin

Keep it loose, unbag before you bin.

  • Plastic, metal and glass containers from the kitchen, bathroom and laundry (no plastic or paper bags)
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Clear biscuit trays
  • Milk cartons
  • Fruit punnets and meat trays (no styrofoam or black plastic)
  • Empty and undamaged aerosols
  • Aluminium cans
  • Food cans (eg spaghetti, tuna etc)
  • Aluminium foil balls (tennis ball-sized balls - think of it like a tin can)

Tips

  • Containers should be cleanish (no one likes the smell of rancid milk or sticky jam residue)
  • Empty containers of any liquids before placing into the bin
  • Remove lids from plastic liquid containers, squash air out and put the lid on to fit more in your bin
  • No batteries or butane: they can cause fires and damage
  • No plastic or paper bags

Bin it Red instead

  • Single-use coffee cups
  • Broken glass or ceramics (please wrap in paper or cardboard for safety reasons)
  • Lone lids
  • Styrofoam trays
  • Food scraps
