On exhibition from 17 April - 17 May, 2024
In commemoration of ANZAC Day, Manly Creative Library will host an exhibition of photographs honouring locals who served in World War I.
During the World War I, former Manly Council requested a photograph from each family of those being sent off to war.
The photographs were originally in a framed Roll of Honour that was displayed in the Manly Council Municipal Chambers, but this was later removed and bound into ledgers (now held in the Local Studies collection).
The British Prime Minister at the time, David Lloyd George, would later write: “The most poignant suffering was not on the battlefield, but in the bereft hearths and hearts in the homeland.”
This exhibition presents a small selection of the many who served. To view the exhibition, visit the Creative Library on Level 1 of Manly Library from 17 April - 17 May, 2024.
Lest we forget.
