Avalon Community Library is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this October!

Starting as a community initiative to serve the northern end of the peninsula, Avalon Community Library first opened its doors on Friday 28 October, 1983 with a small collection of 3,000 books donated by bookshops, authors and publishers. Today, the library houses more than 23,000 items that are shared across Northern Beaches Council Library Service.

Since its inception, Avalon Community Library has been a much-loved institution by community members. Operated by a dedicated library co-ordinator and 65 volunteers, the library provides a welcoming space to read, work and relax, and hosts a regular program of events including author talks and story time sessions.

Happy birthday Avalon Community Library! Here’s to 40 more years serving the Avalon community and beyond.
