NAIDOC Week I 7 July - 14 July 2024

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for 2024 is ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud’. 

Join us at the Library this NAIDOC Week to learn more about First Nations cultures and histories and celebrate one of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. 

Weaving Stories Workshops

31, 7, 21 & 28 June, 10am - 12pm at Mona Vale Creative Space Gallery
1, 22 June & 12 July, 10am – 12pm at Manly Creative Library

Learn traditional weaving techniques while listening to stories shared by Aboriginal knowledge holders. 

NAIDOC Tree Creations

Saturday 6 July – Sunday 21 July at all library locations

Drop-in to your local library for a fun tree creation activity. Suitable for all ages. 

NAIDOC Storytelling at Dee Why

Monday 8 July, 9.30 – 10.30am at Dee Why Library

Join us for a special storytelling event describing First Nations knowledge of trees and our wildlife connections, followed by a tree craft activity. 

NAIDOC Story Box Screenings

Monday 8 July, Wednesday 10 & Friday 12 July, various library locations

Drop-in to the library to hear stories by First Nations Australian authors and illustrators on our big-ish screen. Suitable for children under 12, with an accompanying parent or guardian.

Aboriginal Bracelet Weaving Workshops

Wednesday 10 July
10 - 11.30am at Mona Vale Creative Space Gallery
2 - 3.30pm at Manly Library

Learn the art of weaving in a hands-on experience with local Ngumpie Weaving. Connect with First Nations culture, explore your creativity and learn the traditional weaving methods used in making a raffia bracelet. For children and youth aged 8+.
