Planning for what you would do in a disaster can make a big difference when the unexpected happens. Planning ahead is especially important for those who may face additional challenges in our community.
Council is excited to introduce the Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) program to the Northern Beaches.
The program is designed to support people who face additional risks during emergencies including seniors, people with disabilities and multicultural communities by helping them create tailored personal emergency plans that address their needs. This approach builds on people’s strengths, capabilities and networks to develop a plan for how they will manage in an emergency situation.
The program was co-designed and tested with people with disability by the University of Sydney. You can find out more on their website.
Develop your own personal emergency plan
Do you need help to plan for managing your support needs in a disaster?
Attend a workshop to learn how to create a personal emergency plan that’s tailored to your needs. Workshops are based on the Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) approach developed by the University of Sydney.
What to expect?
- This 3 hour group workshop will provide you with an introduction to P-CEP and begin conversations about preparing for emergencies.
- Trained facilitators will guide you through the P-CEP toolkit to identify your strengths and support needs and plan for an emergency.
- You’ll be given the P-CEP workbook to take home to help you develop your personal plan.
- There will be information and resources to help you understand local disaster risks.
After the workshop you will have the option to receive more support from facilitators to keep working on your personal emergency plan.
Who should attend?
The workshops are designed for people who face additional challenges in an emergency including people with disabilities and seniors.
We encourage you to bring a family member, carer or support person so they can continue conversations about your personal emergency plan with you as situations change. Please book an additional ticket if you plan on bringing a support person.
If you have any accessibility or inclusion requirements, please let us know prior to attending the event. We will try to make necessary accommodations where possible.
