We are seeking Expressions of Interest from people who would like to become a Person Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Facilitator to pilot the program on the Northern Beaches.
By training as a P-CEP facilitator, you’ll gain the skills to help people in our community who need extra support with emergency planning to develop practical and effective emergency plans that build on their strengths, capabilities and existing support networks.
As a P-CEP Facilitator you will have the opportunity to:
- Complete training to become a P-CEP facilitator *
- Help plan sessions to roll out P-CEP in the community in a group or 1:1 setting
- Co-facilitate group sessions for community members to create their own emergency plan **
- Participate in community action planning to identify strengths, solutions and gaps to improve emergency preparedness for key groups in our community.

Who should apply?
- Working and/or volunteering for emergency or social services
- Community members who are seniors, living with disability or from multicultural communities.
- Family, carers and/or community advocates of people with disability, seniors or multicultural communities
- People who have experienced disasters or impacts of extreme weather
- People who are passionate about emergency preparedness and/or inclusion
Key dates
- EOI open: 29 October 2024
- EOI close: 17 January 2025
- P-CEP Facilitator Training: February 2025
- Planning for P-CEP sessions: February-March 2025 (3-5 meetings)
- Co-facilitate P-CEP sessions: March – May 2025
- Community Action Planning: May 2025
* Course placements will be funded by Northern Beaches Council. The training offered by the University of Sydney is online and consists of 6 self-paced modules (one optional online session held via Zoom). It takes around 15 hours to complete with access provided over a 4 week period in February 2025.
** This will be around 6-8 group sessions over 6 weeks in April-May 2025. Please note, facilitators do not have to participate in all sessions and facilitators working in the community sector will be supported to put P-CEP into practice in a 1:1 setting.
Selection of participants
Places are limited. Applicants should only apply if they are able to complete training and participate in the pilot program over the time period outlined.
The following factors will be considered when selecting the group to participate in the training:
- Applicants must be 18 years or older
- Applicants must be living, studying, or working in the Northern Beaches LGA
- Diversity of participants including age, gender and cultural background, people with lived experience, relevant sector professionals and broader community members
- Priority will be given to those with existing links to priority groups for the pilot (people with disability, seniors and people from multicultural backgrounds)
- Priority will be given to those with capacity to continue to facilitate P-CEP planning beyond the end of the pilot program.
If you are not selected for facilitator training, you are welcome to attend one of the community group sessions to develop individual P-CEP plans.
